My Celtic journey started a long time ago when I bought an Accordian of a man called gordOn Smith in a pub in Marylebone. He was in the 80s. When Music taste were changing over the next few years I went on a journey discovering my European and Irish rates through Music. I end ended up living in Portobello Road and playing in a folk collective called the wise Monkeys this band had many personnel changes and in 1991 I found myself playing a gig above a pub in Portobello Road with Sinéad O’Connor. This performance was captured by an old Mate of mine called Jason Mayall son of the famous blues player John Mayall , the Accordian took me in lots of different directions and got me to start in the Film music industry working at first with a man called Michael Kamen and later with a great film director called Julien Temple who I made many films with including a fantastic film about Shane McGowan called a Crock of Gold whilst making music for this film I hired a Uillean Piper called Dicky Deegan. In an afternoon at my Studio in West Buy feet we recorded lots of fantastic music and that session made me realise that I should make my own Celtic album. Being second generation Irish is a weird thing because you feel that you are Irish but you are not. It’s like a search for an identity that you’ve never really had. I’ve decided to scratch that Itch by making this album. In 2023 I found myself living in a village in another Celtic nation called Brittany and I decided it was time to make the album so the first person I called was Dicky Deegan who strangely enough was also staying in Brittany, he came over and we recorded the bones of what was this album it is not an album for Celtic purists it is our vision of our identity and cultural confusion so we have a bit of Celtic Punk we have a bit of lounge music and we have some ballads and of course my Granny‘s favourite song Black velvet band .
You have been supportive enough in the past to pay for my Music on my book so here is your opportunity to get involved in this exciting project. You can buy a vinyl or a CD or you can just download the music because all the work has gone into the Music. You don’t need a piece of paper or a piece of plastic to enjoy the music..
If you would like to be an executive producer, I am offering the chance to have your name printed on the album cover that of course cost more but it helps pay for the product.
Thank you for taking time to read this as usual with all my products. I will be doing videos and adding content to this project as it goes along. I am hoping to launch it at an intimate gig in London on the 24th of May next to Borough market on an old sailing boat. I will give you links to buying ticket for that event.
